'Cool as Ice' is a compact, clump-forming fescue whose gray-green spring growth quickly turns steely blue. Its fine foliage keeps color through summer heat, and seasonal flower stems rise above the mound.
## Garden Use
Plant it along an edge, in a rock garden, or in a container where the blue foliage can contrast with broad leaves and darker greens. Missouri Botanical Garden lists a mature height of 1 to 1.5 feet and a spread of 1.5 to 2 feet; Midwest Groundcovers gives the same range and describes May-to-July bloom. The cultivar's foliage color and heat response are also documented in its [plant patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP27651P2/en).
## Growing Conditions
Give it full sun for the strongest blue color, though it tolerates part shade. Use loose, well-drained soil and avoid persistently soggy sites. Water regularly through its first growing season; established plants tolerate moderate drought.
## Maintenance
In early spring, rake or comb out faded foliage before new leaves emerge. Divide clumps every few years if the center thins.
