Create design onlineAbout Fire Ball® Burning Bush
Fire Ball® is the ‘Select’ cultivar of winged euonymus, bred for a tighter, more compact outline and better winter hardiness than many older burning bushes. Its dark green summer foliage turns bright red in fall, giving a deciduous shrub a strong seasonal color change.
## Form and season
[Proven Winners](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/euonymus/fire-ball-burning-bush-euonymus-alatus) lists mature height and spread at 5–7 feet and hardiness in USDA zones 4–8. The grower describes dense branching, bright red fall color, and stronger cold performance than other varieties. Like other winged euonymus, small spring flowers are not a major display; the foliage and corky stems carry most of the ornamental interest.
## Siting
Plant in full sun for the strongest red fall color. Fire Ball adapts to most soils but performs best with moderate moisture and good drainage; avoid persistently wet ground. Its compact size suits a foundation bed, mixed shrub border, or hedge where a deciduous screen is wanted. Winged euonymus can naturalize in some regions, so check local planting guidance.
## Maintenance
Routine pruning is usually limited to shaping. Proven Winners notes that the plant tolerates heavier pruning; late winter is a suitable time when size or structure needs correction.
