Create design onlineAbout 'Firefly Amethyst' Yarrow
‘Firefly Amethyst’ yarrow is a compact, upright perennial with billowy stems and fern-like dark-green foliage. Its lavender-pink flower clusters lighten to soft pink, bringing color to sunny borders and containers through summer.
## Form and flowering
Proven Winners lists a mature size of 18–22 inches tall by 32–36 inches wide and rates the plant for USDA Zones 3–8. Its sturdy stems carry broad clusters of flowers; a three-year-old Michigan patent trial plant showed a bloom period of about seven weeks beginning in late June, with repeat flowering when spent blooms are removed. The flowers and foliage suit borders, mass plantings, and fresh or dried arrangements. Its plant patent USPP 32,361 was granted on October 20, 2020.
## Growing conditions
Choose full sun and well-drained, average or poor soil; avoid overly rich planting beds. Proven Winners lists average water needs, and its yarrow care guide recommends watering through establishment before relying on established plants’ drought tolerance. The Firefly series is described as clumping rather than spreading. The exact-cultivar page also lists salt tolerance, bee and butterfly attraction, and resistance to deer and rabbits. See [Proven Winners’ cultivar profile](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/achillea/firefly-amethyst-yarrow-achillea-hybrid), the [plant patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP32361P2/en), and its [yarrow care guide](https://serv3.provenwinners.com/learn/how-plant/yarrow).
## Maintenance
Water regularly while new roots establish. Deadhead faded clusters to encourage another flush, then cut the plant back by about half after flowering, as Proven Winners recommends. Leave space for its mature spread and use well-drained soil to reduce problems from excess moisture.
