About 'Firefly Red Pop' Yarrow

Achillea 'Firefly Red Pop' is an upright, billowy hybrid yarrow with finely divided, silvery-green leaves and broad clusters of bright cherry-red flowers with small yellow centers. It is a Walters Gardens selection in the [Firefly Collection](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=ACHRP), sold through [Proven Winners](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/achillea/firefly-red-pop-yarrow-achillea-hybrid); its plant patent, [USPP 36,061](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP36061P2/en), was granted in 2024. ## Flowers and garden use The sturdy flowering stems suit sunny perennial borders, repeated mass plantings, and cutting or drying. Bees and butterflies visit the flowers, and the cultivar is listed as resistant to deer and rabbits. Its red flowers are the main seasonal display, while the dissected foliage adds a fine, silvery texture. The [patent description](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP36061P2/en) records a roughly seven-week display beginning in late June in a Michigan trial garden, with repeat flowering possible after deadheading. ## Size and siting [Proven Winners](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/achillea/firefly-red-pop-yarrow-achillea-hybrid) and [Walters Gardens](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=ACHRP) list a mature height and spread of 24–28 inches. The patent describes trial plants about 68 cm tall and up to 109 cm wide, with an average spread near 100 cm, so allow extra room for a broad clump. Plant in full sun and well-drained, average to poor soil; rich soil can make stems tall and floppy. Water regularly while new plants establish. Established plants tolerate drought, although Walters Gardens lists both low and average water needs. ## Maintenance Remove faded flower heads if you want to encourage repeat flowering. Proven Winners recommends cutting the plant back by half after flowering; this can help refresh the clump and may produce another flush later in summer. Leave some seed heads if you want their dried texture to remain part of the garden display.
