Create design onlineAbout Gold Cluster™ Forsythia
Gold Cluster™ is a naturally compact forsythia with light-yellow flowers that cover bare branches in early spring, followed by green summer foliage and burgundy fall color. Its roughly 4-foot size suits a small border, foundation planting, or low informal hedge. [McKay Nursery](https://www.mckaynursery.com/gold-cluster-forsythia) identifies the selection as Forsythia × ‘Courtaneur’ and lists it in Zones 4 to 9; [Gertens](https://www.gertens.com/gold-cluster-forsythia) confirms the compact size and early-spring flowers.
## Placement and seasonal interest
Plant in full sun for the strongest flowering. The rounded, multi-stemmed shrub works in a mixed border or a short hedge where its yellow flowers can be seen before the leaves emerge. Foliage stays green through summer, then shifts toward burgundy or purple in fall.
## Soil and watering
Gold Cluster is adaptable to common garden soils. Water consistently while it establishes, then check the soil during extended dry periods and water when the root area begins to dry. McKay Nursery describes the cultivar as compact and suitable for smaller gardens; Gertens lists it for hedge and mass planting uses and reports a mature size near 4 by 4 feet.
## Maintenance
Forsythia flowers on older wood, so prune just after flowering if shaping or renewal is needed. Remove a few of the oldest stems at the base rather than shearing repeatedly; this preserves a natural outline and avoids cutting off next spring's flower buds.
