Gold Tide® is the trade name for ‘Courtasol’, a compact, low-growing Forsythia × intermedia selected for a spreading outline and a dense early-season flower display. Bright yellow blossoms cover bare branches before the leaves open, bringing the shrub into focus in late winter and early spring.
## Garden Placement
Use this low shrub near a foundation, along a sunny border, or as a groundcover where its branches can extend. Full sun gives the best flowering; partial shade is tolerated. It grows in many well-drained garden soils, including clay, loam, sand, and chalk.
## Size and Season
Published mature estimates differ. The original patent describes a plant about 0.5 m tall and 1.2 m wide, while the RHS lists a broader 0.5–1 m height and 1–1.5 m spread. The University of Wisconsin describes it as about 1.5–2 ft tall and notes that winter flower buds benefit from reliable snow cover. Leave room for horizontal growth and site it where early flowers can be seen. ## Maintenance
Forsythia flowers on older stems, so prune just after flowering if you need to shape or thin the plant. Avoid late-season pruning that removes next spring’s flower buds.
