Spring Fling™ Forsythia

Spring Fling™ is the trade-name selection of Forsythia 'UMNFOR01', a compact shrub bred for abundant early-spring flowers. The yellow blooms cover the branches before or as foliage emerges, and the rounded plant matures to roughly 5-6 feet tall and wide. [First Editions](https://firsteditionsplants.com/product/spring-fling-forsythia/) identifies the selection and patent number, while the [plant patent](https://patents.justia.com/patent/PP35518) records its cultivar denomination and mature dimensions. ## Growing Conditions Plant in full sun for the strongest flowering. The patent describes a moderate-growth, compact form and gives plant hardiness to USDA zone 4a, with flower buds hardy to zone 5a; the branded profile lists zones 5-8. This description uses the broader plant hardiness range of zones 4-8. ## Landscape Use Its moderate size suits a hedge, foundation planting, or the back of a border where early color is welcome. Bright green foliage provides a simple background after flowering. ## Maintenance Prune in spring after the flowers fade, as recommended by the brand’s care guide, so the next season’s flower buds are not removed.
