Magical® Gold is Forsythia × intermedia Kolgold, a deciduous shrub selected for abundant golden-yellow flowers that cover the stems in early spring. It grows about 4–5 feet tall and wide, making a bright focal point or informal hedge before its green leaves fill in. [Monrovia](https://www.monrovia.com/magical-gold-forsythia.html) and [Jackson & Perkins](https://www.jacksonandperkins.com/forsythia-magical-gold/p/26344/) identify the cultivar and describe its size, color, and growing range.
## Landscape use
Plant it in a sunny border, grouped shrub planting, or loose hedge where its bare-stem flowers can be seen in spring. Full sun gives the strongest flowering, though it also grows in part shade. Its stems can be cut for indoor arrangements.
## Growing conditions
Use moist, well-drained soil; the cultivar also tolerates clay and relatively poor soils. It is listed for USDA zones 5–8. Allow room for a broad, arching outline instead of shearing it into a tight shape.
## Maintenance
Prune just after flowering to control size and remove older stems; late pruning can remove next spring’s flower buds. [Missouri Botanical Garden](https://plantfinder.mobot.org/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?cv=4&isprofile=0&pt=4&taxonid=364287&z=8) notes that this selection flowers on the stems and benefits from pruning after bloom.
