Create design onlineAbout Golden Desert® Golden Desert Ash
Golden Desert® is a compact, rounded ash selected for its changing golden tones and relatively modest size compared with larger ashes. It reaches about 30 feet tall with a somewhat narrower spread, making it a candidate for a spacious lawn or park planting where a deciduous shade tree is wanted.
## Form and Seasonal Interest
The foliage is reported as yellowish in spring, green-yellow in summer, and yellow-gold in fall; golden stems and winter buds can add interest after leaf drop. Plant it in sun or part shade and allow room for the crown to develop. The listed hardiness is USDA Zone 5.
## Naming
The Golden Desert name is associated with a golden-leaved ash, but botanical references disagree about its placement among *Fraxinus* taxa and note that more than one clone may have circulated under the name. This description therefore keeps the selection identity while leaving that species-level question open. [Oregon State University’s Landscape Plants reference](https://landscapeplants.oregonstate.edu/plants/fraxinus-excelsior-golden-desert) documents the mature size, exposure, hardiness, seasonal foliage, and naming history.
## Maintenance
Water a newly planted tree regularly while it establishes, then adjust irrigation to local rainfall and soil drainage. Keep turf and mulch from piling against the trunk, and prune only to remove damaged or crossing branches or to maintain safe clearance. Check for ash pests and follow local arborist guidance, since ash health risks vary by region.
