Create design onlineAbout Manna Ash
Manna ash (Fraxinus ornus), also called flowering ash, is a rounded deciduous tree grown for fragrant, creamy-white flower clusters in spring. Its pinnate leaves are dark green and may turn yellow or purplish in autumn. [The University of Utah tree tour](https://facilities.utah.edu/tree-tour/tree-display.php?tree_name=flowering-ash-manna-ash) reports a mature height of 40-50 feet and USDA zones 6-9; other botanical references report larger trees, so leave ample canopy room.
## Siting and Soil
Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. The [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/7316/fraxinus-ornus/details) lists chalk, clay, loam, or sand and neutral to alkaline conditions. Moist but well-drained soil is suitable, while established trees also grow in well-drained sites.
## Landscape Use
The spring flower display and rounded crown make this an ornamental shade or specimen tree. Its spread varies between references, so avoid tight planting beside buildings or walks.
## Maintenance
Allow space for the crown and water during establishment. Remove dead or damaged branches as needed; the University of Utah describes average maintenance and average growth.
