About Marshall's Seedless Green Ash

Marshall’s Seedless is a named green ash selected for its upright, oval crown and yellow autumn foliage. UF/IFAS reports a mature height of 50–60 feet and spread of 40–50 feet; its USDA hardiness range is 3A–8A. The existing cultivar name is retained because it identifies the selection described by the extension source. ## Form and placement Young trees may be irregular before developing a more oval crown. Plant in full sun with room for the mature canopy and roots. The [UF/IFAS profile](https://ask.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/ST267) describes glossy green leaves, yellow fall color and fast growth. Its detailed size table gives the ranges above; no single mature height or spread is implied by those ranges. ## Site and limitations This selection was introduced as seedless, but UF/IFAS notes that some trees in the population now set seed. The same source flags weak branch crotches, breakage and pest problems, including emerald ash borer, and no longer recommends it for general planting. Check local ash and pest guidance before choosing a site, and consider a better-supported alternative if planting a new shade tree. ## Maintenance Prune while young to establish one central leader and well-spaced branches; avoid topping. Water during establishment and dry weather, and monitor for borer activity and branch damage. Mature surface roots may lift nearby paving, so leave adequate rooting space and keep the tree away from constrained walks and utilities.
