About Patmore Green Ash

Patmore green ash is a male, seedless selection with a symmetrical oval crown and glossy dark-green leaves. It provides broad shade and turns bright yellow in fall, with typical mature dimensions near 45 feet tall and 35 feet wide. [University of Illinois Extension's woody plant database](https://woodyplants.nres.uiuc.edu/plant/frapepa01) lists the cultivar at 45 by 35 feet and USDA Zone 3; [Blue Heron Nursery](https://bhfnursery.com/fraxinus-pennsylvanica-patmore/) confirms its seedless character, upright form, and fall color. ## Form and seasonal interest Give this long-lived tree room for its full crown and keep it clear of overhead wires and buildings. The selected form is upright to oval and rather symmetrical. Its shiny foliage is dark green through the growing season, then turns yellow in autumn. Male trees do not produce the seed crops found on female green ash. ## Site and care Blue Heron Nursery reports tolerance of high-pH and heavy wet soils, drought, wind, and urban conditions. Match watering to establishment and local weather, and avoid treating those tolerances as a reason to leave a newly planted tree dry. University of Illinois notes that cankers and Verticillium wilt have been reported on Patmore in Illinois; inspect for declining branches and seek local diagnosis if symptoms appear. ## Maintenance Prune selectively while the tree is young to establish sound spacing between permanent branches. Remove dead or damaged limbs as needed, and avoid topping the crown. Check local ash pest guidance before planting or moving ash stock.
