Fun and Games ‘Capture the Flag’ is a named Heucherella hybrid grown for deeply lobed chartreuse foliage with burgundy-red centers. Small white flowers rise above the leaves in late spring, and the foliage is semi-evergreen. This compact, shade-tolerant perennial suits the front of a border, woodland edge, or container.
## Garden character
Leaves combine bright chartreuse and burgundy-red markings with a pronounced lobed texture. In late spring, delicate stems carry small white flowers above the foliage, creating a light display over the colorful mound. Its foliage provides the main seasonal interest and pairs well with hostas, ferns, and other shade plants. [Walters Gardens](https://www.waltersgardens.com/variety.php?ID=HERCA) and [Proven Winners](https://admin.provenwinners.com/plants/heucherella/fun-and-games-capture-flag-foamy-bells-heucherella-hybrid) feature this selection.
## Growing conditions
Grow in partial shade to shade; the plant can tolerate more sun when soil moisture remains steady. Use humus-rich soil with good drainage and water regularly during dry periods, especially while the plant is becoming established. Avoid persistently waterlogged soil around the crown.
## Size
Plan for a leafy mound about 8–10 inches tall and 16–22 inches wide at maturity. Leave enough space for the foliage to fill in without crowding nearby plants.
## Maintenance
Water during extended dry spells, especially during establishment or in containers. Remove spent flower stems after blooming and trim damaged leaves in spring. Check soil moisture during hot, dry weather and keep the crown clear of accumulated leaf litter.
