MESA™ 'Yellow' Blanket Flower

MESA™ ‘Yellow’ is an upright blanket flower with solid yellow, daisy-like blooms. This first-year-flowering perennial forms sturdy, well-branched plants and adds a bright, long-season accent to sunny borders and containers. ## Garden Use Plan for about 14–16 inches of height and 20–22 inches of spread. The MESA series has a controlled habit and flowers the first year from seed; ‘Yellow’ is also recognized as an All-America Selections winner. Repeat plants in a border or combine them with blue- and purple-flowered perennials for contrast. ## Growing Conditions Grow it in full sun and well-drained soil. PanAmerican Seed lists USDA zones 5a–10b and describes established MESA plants as drought tolerant. Good drainage matters more than rich soil, and persistently wet winter conditions can shorten the life of blanket flowers. ## Maintenance Water young plants until established, then use a light hand with irrigation. Deadhead faded flowers to tidy the clump and encourage continued bloom, and cut back old stems after flowering.
