Gardenia jasminoides ‘Veitchii’ is an evergreen shrub with glossy dark green leaves and double, strongly fragrant white flowers. Its long bloom season and close-range fragrance make it especially useful beside patios, entries, and paths.
## Garden Use
Use this cultivar as a specimen, a small hedge, or a container shrub where its flowers can be enjoyed. Sources describe mature plants from roughly 4 to 6 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide, with the range reflecting differences among exact-cultivar references. The flower display is strongest from spring into fall, and the white blooms also make useful cut flowers. See [Gardenia.net’s Veitchii profile](https://www.gardenia.net/plant/gardenia-jasminoides-veitchii/1000) and the [NC State Extension cultivar notes](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/gardenia-jasminoides/).
## Growing Conditions
Plant in full sun to light shade; afternoon shade helps in hot climates. Give it moist, acidic, organically rich soil with good drainage. A container is practical where winter cold requires protection.
## Maintenance
Water regularly to keep the root zone evenly moist. Remove faded flowers to encourage continued bloom and prune lightly after flowering or while dormant to shape the shrub. Avoid alkaline soil and protect roots with mulch in cooler areas.
