About Rosy Jane Whirling Butterflies

Rosy Jane is the trade name for 'Harrosy', a bicolored gaura with white petals edged in pink and dark pink buds. Its airy flower stems rise above green foliage mottled with purple, bringing movement and a clear two-tone detail to sunny plantings. ## Growth and seasonal display The Royal Horticultural Society lists 'Harrosy' as the formal name and Rosy Jane/Rosyjane as trade synonyms. It gives a broad mature height of 0.5–1 metre and spread of 0.1–0.5 metre; the plant patent describes about 80 cm in height and 60 cm in width, so individual plants and growing conditions produce different estimates. The selected cultivar blooms in summer and early fall. See the [RHS plant profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/303255/gaura-lindheimeri-harrosy/details) and [U.S. Plant Patent PP22,290](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP22290P2/en). ## Siting Plant in full sun in well-drained loam or sandy soil. Rosy Jane works in a cottage-style border, a pollinator planting, or a large container where the stems can move without leaning over neighboring plants. The RHS also records chalk soils and a columnar upright habit. USDA-oriented nursery guidance places it in zones 5–9; the RHS hardiness rating uses a separate UK system and should not be read as a USDA zone. ## Maintenance Keep young plants watered as roots establish, then avoid waterlogged soil. Remove spent flowering stalks and cut the plant back in early spring to make room for new growth. The species can be short-lived, so good drainage and careful handling of the deep root system help it settle in. RHS includes Rosy Jane among its Plants for Pollinators selections; its flowers provide nectar and pollen for bees and other pollinating insects.
