Gazania rigens is a low, mat-forming perennial often grown as an annual in cooler gardens. North Carolina Extension describes plants about 6–12 inches tall and wide; the RHS gives a broader 0.1–0.5-metre range. Plant it where the bright flowers receive direct sun and the low foliage can spread along the ground. ## Growing Conditions Use sandy or loamy soil with good drainage. The species tolerates dry conditions between waterings, and the North Carolina profile lists USDA zones 9a–11b. Flowers may pause during very hot southern summers and resume when conditions cool. ## Maintenance Let the soil dry somewhat between waterings and avoid keeping the crown wet. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continued bloom, and reduce watering during prolonged cool or damp weather.
