New Day® Bronze Shades Gazania

New Day® Bronze Shades is a compact, mounded Gazania rigens selection with large blooms in bronze tones. PanAmerican Seed lists it at about 8–10 inches tall and 6–8 inches wide, with flowering from late spring through summer. The New Day series is bred for sturdy plants and uniform bloom, making this selection well suited to small containers and sunny garden edges. ## Siting and soil Plant in full sun and choose soil that drains well. Sandy or average garden soil is suitable; avoid waterlogged sites. Water newly planted gazanias while roots establish, then let the soil dry between waterings. The breeder identifies the New Day series as drought tolerant and recommends it for containers, baskets, edging, and groundcover. ## Seasonal display Bronze Shades contributes warm color in a low, tidy mound, and its green foliage remains a useful backdrop between flowers. Gazania blooms open in bright light and can close at night or on cloudy days, so place the plant where it receives direct sun for much of the day. ## Maintenance Remove faded flower heads to encourage continued bloom. Check drainage in containers and reduce watering during cool, rainy periods.
