New Day® Pink Shades Gazania

New Day® Pink Shades is a compact Gazania rigens selection with pink, daisy-like flowers above a low mound of green foliage. Ball lists flowering from late spring into summer and a mature size of about 8–10 inches tall by 6–8 inches wide. Its tidy scale suits sunny borders, containers, and garden edges where a long seasonal color display is useful. ## Garden Use Place it at the front of a sunny bed, along a path, or in a container where its pink flower heads can be seen up close. Ball describes the New Day series as useful in baskets, containers, edging, and ground cover, with compact, sturdy plants and larger flowers than competing varieties. The blooms are most showy in bright conditions. ## Growing Conditions Give it full sun and well-drained soil. Ball identifies Pink Shades as drought and heat tolerant and lists light water; water during establishment, then let the soil dry somewhat between irrigations. In cold climates, grow it as a warm-season annual. Ball reports a 40°F hardiness degree, which is not a USDA zone rating. ## Maintenance Remove faded flower heads to keep the mound neat and encourage continued display. Check container soil during prolonged heat because pots dry faster than beds.
