About Woadwaxen

Dyer’s greenweed (Genista tinctoria 'Royal Gold') is a deciduous, upright shrub with narrow dark-green leaves and dense clusters of deep golden-yellow flowers. This selection blooms in spring and early summer and develops into a compact woody mound. ## Garden use Plant it in a sunny border or gravel garden where the upright stems and yellow flower clusters can be seen clearly. Its mature size depends on the growing conditions; the RHS gives a range of 0.5 to 1 metre for both height and spread. ## Growing conditions Choose full sun and well-drained soil. The RHS lists chalk, clay, loam, and sand as suitable soil types, with acid, alkaline, or neutral pH. The plant can reach about 3.3 feet across, so allow room for its mature spread. ## Maintenance Keep the soil well drained and avoid overwatering. The RHS describes the selection as deciduous and notes drought resistance. Prune lightly after flowering if shaping is needed.
