Blue Sunrise Hardy Geranium

Geranium ‘Blue Sunrise’ is the trade name for the hardy selection ‘Blogold’, a low, spreading cranesbill with violet-blue flowers and changing foliage color. The Royal Horticultural Society describes leaves that emerge amber-yellow in spring, become greener in summer, and take on red tints in autumn; flowers continue from early summer into autumn ([RHS](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/241922/geranium-blue-sunrise-blogold/details)). An American grower also lists ‘Blogold’ under the Blue Sunrise name and reports a compact size near 12–16 inches tall and 18–24 inches wide ([Blooming Advantage](https://m.bloomingadvantage.com/info.asp?code=1072)). ## Garden use Place it at the front of a sunny or partly shaded border, along a low wall, or where its trailing stems can soften an edge. The bright spring foliage and blue-violet flowers provide interest across several parts of the growing season. Leave space for its spread rather than crowding it with taller plants. ## Maintenance Grow in moderately fertile, well-drained soil and water new plantings during establishment. Remove old flowered stems and leaves to encourage fresh foliage and flowering. Divide established clumps in spring if they become crowded.
