Create design onlineAbout Havana Blues Hardy Geranium
Havana Blues is a spreading hardy geranium with violet-blue, saucer-shaped flowers, white centers and contrasting veins. The Royal Horticultural Society lists the trade name as a synonym of Geranium wallichianum 'Noorthava'; published size estimates differ, so allow room for the trailing stems rather than treating it as a tiny edging plant. ## Garden use and season
Use it near the front of a border, among low shrubs, or in a container where the stems can weave or trail. The five-lobed leaves emerge yellow-green, then mature to green; flowers appear over a long season, from late spring or summer into fall, depending on climate. Its blue-violet flowers pair well with silver foliage and pale pink or white perennials.
## Site and care
Plant in full sun or partial shade in ordinary, moderately fertile soil that drains freely. Keep new plants evenly moist while they establish; avoid waterlogged ground. A lightly shaded position can help in hot-summer gardens. The [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/328465/geranium-wallichianum-noorthava/details) lists chalk, clay, loam and sand as suitable soils.
## Maintenance
Remove spent stems to tidy the plant and encourage fresh growth. Divide established clumps in spring if they outgrow their space, and water during extended dry spells while young.
