About Midnight Ghost Hardy Geranium

Midnight Ghost is a compact meadow cranesbill with finely divided foliage that emerges nearly black-purple, then matures dark green with purple edging. White flowers, softly veined pale purple, rise above the leaves from late spring into summer. [Thompson & Morgan](https://www.thompson-morgan.com/p/geranium-pratense-midnight-ghost/WKJ4623TM) gives an ultimate size of about 8 inches tall by 12 inches wide. ## Garden Use The low, clump-forming habit places this cultivar naturally at the front of a border, in a container, or among other perennials in a cottage-style planting. Its contrasting leaves and white blooms are easiest to appreciate close to a path or patio. The foliage also gives a dark accent among finer green or silver plants. ## Growing Conditions Choose full sun or partial shade and moist, well-drained soil. Water regularly through summer while the plant establishes; avoid leaving the crown in waterlogged ground. The cultivar’s dark new leaves and white flowers distinguish it from a typical green-leaved meadow cranesbill. ## Maintenance Lift and divide overcrowded clumps in spring to maintain vigor. Remove spent stems when a tidier display is desired.
