About Alpenglow Hardy Geranium

Geranium sanguineum ‘Alpenglow’ forms a compact, spreading mound of finely divided green leaves and bright pink flowers. The foliage turns crimson in autumn, extending the plant’s contribution beyond its late spring and early summer flowering period. ## Placement and season Use Alpenglow along a sunny or partly shaded border, at an edge, or as a low ground cover where its spreading habit can soften paths and planting transitions. The Royal Horticultural Society describes it as clump-forming and about 30 cm tall; Walters Gardens’ information gives a 12-inch height and 18-inch spread. Its cup-shaped lavender-pink flowers rise above the foliage, while the cut leaves add a distinct fall color display. The plant tolerates a range of soil types, but should not sit in waterlogged ground. Leave room for a modest spreading clump; established plants can be divided in spring or propagated from basal cuttings. Deadheading is especially useful when you want to keep the mound tidy through its extended flowering period.
