About Bengal™ Red with Eye Gerbera

Bengal™ Red with Eye Gerbera is Syngenta’s red *Gerbera jamesonii* selection with a contrasting central eye. The breeder lists it as an upright, seed-raised color variety with an approximate garden size of 10–12 inches tall by 7–9 inches wide; Bengal plants flower uniformly and carry multiple blooms at the first flush. [Syngenta Bengal Red with Eye](https://www.syngentaflowers.com/ams/product/flower/70035498) ## Garden Use Use this compact gerbera in patio pots, window boxes, and the front of a sheltered seasonal border. Its red flowers bring a strong focal color to a small planting, while the compact foliage makes it easy to pair with lower annuals. Syngenta lists exposure from part shade through full sun and flowering from mid-spring into summer. ## Growing Conditions Grow in fertile, well-drained soil or a free-draining container compost. Water when the medium begins to dry, keeping it lightly moist during active growth. Keep the crown just above the soil line and do not leave containers standing in water. Gerberas are vulnerable to cold and winter wet, so use this selection as seasonal bedding outdoors in colder regions or protect it under cover. [RHS gerbera guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/gerbera/growing-guide) ## Maintenance Remove spent flower stems at the base and clear damaged leaves to keep the plant tidy. Keep water away from the crown, and move container plants to shelter before cold weather.
