Gerbera daisy (*Gerbera jamesonii*) forms a low clump of lobed leaves with bold, daisy-shaped flowers held above the foliage. The species profile lists flowers in red, orange, pink, and yellow from late spring into summer, with mature height and spread varying by plant and growing conditions. ## Garden Use
Use gerberas at the front of a sheltered border, in patio containers, or in a cut-flower planting where the flowers can be reached easily. Their bright flowers suit small groups and seasonal displays; the species is often grown as bedding or under cover in cooler climates. The RHS gives a broad mature height of about 0.5–1 m and spread of 0.1–0.5 m, so leave room for a compact leafy base and upright flower stems.
## Growing Conditions
Provide fertile, well-drained soil and a bright, sheltered position. Gerberas prefer consistently moist but draining conditions during active growth; in containers, let the compost dry slightly between waterings and never leave the pot standing in water. In colder regions, grow them as seasonal bedding or move pots under cover before frost. [RHS growing guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/gerbera/growing-guide)
## Maintenance
Remove faded flower stems at their base to keep the display tidy and encourage further flowering. Keep water away from the crown, and clear damaged leaves so damp material does not collect around the plant. Protect tender plants from cold and winter wet.
