About Koi Avens

Koi is a compact Geum coccineum selection with glossy, lobed green leaves and bright orange-red flowers held just above the foliage. It flowers from late spring into midsummer and suits smaller planting spaces. ## Growing Conditions Grow Koi in full sun or partial shade in moist but well-drained soil. The [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/307106/geum-coccineum-koi/details) describes a clump-forming perennial about 25 cm tall in flower and lists chalk, clay, loam, or sandy soils. [Syngenta Flowers](https://www.syngentaflowers.com/emea/product/flower/70007979) identifies the crop as Geum coccineum ‘Koi’ and lists a 20–30 cm garden height, supporting its compact habit. Keep newly planted clumps watered through dry spells. ## Garden Use Place Koi at the front of a border, along a path, or in a patio pot where its warm flowers can be seen at close range. Its lower flower stems work well beside taller perennials without obscuring them. ## Maintenance Remove faded stems if you want to keep the display tidy and reduce seed formation. Divide established clumps when the center thins or flowering declines. Avoid leaving the crown in persistently waterlogged soil, especially in winter. The [RHS Geum guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/geum/growing-guide) explains general care for deadheading and refreshing older clumps.
