About Flames of Passion Avens

Geum ‘Flames of Passion’ forms a low clump of dark green leaves with scarlet to deep red flowers carried on wiry stems. It can repeat its display from late spring into summer and is useful where a compact flowering perennial is needed. ## Season and form The cultivar’s patent identifies it botanically as Geum rivale and records an upright habit and long flowering period. The [Future Plants profile](https://www.futureplants.com/perennial-varieties/geum-flames-of-passion) lists 40 cm foliage, 50 cm flowering stems, and a 30 cm spread; the [Perennials.com profile](https://www.perennials.com/plants/geum-flames-of-passion.html) gives a broader garden range of 16–20 inches tall by 12–18 inches wide. Red flowers and deep green foliage stand above a compact clump. ## Placement and care Grow it in full sun or partial shade in average to moist soil. The selection works at a border edge, in a mixed container, or as a small cut flower. Its repeat-blooming habit can add color through several summer weeks, while the foliage may remain evergreen in mild-winter gardens. See the [cultivar patent](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP13730P2/en) for the accepted name and recorded selection traits. ## Maintenance Routine deadheading is not required. After the flowering period, shear old stems if a tidier clump is wanted.
