Geum ‘Scarlet Tempest’ is a clump-forming avens with mid-green leaves and large scarlet flowers flushed with apricot. Its first flowers open in mid-spring, followed by further flowering through summer and into autumn.
## Season and form
The Royal Horticultural Society lists this selection under the synonym ‘Macgeu001’ and gives a broad mature range of 10–50 cm in both height and spread. Nursery profiles commonly place it near 45 cm, so allow about 18 inches in each direction. The [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/377077/geum-macgeu001/details) describes the spring-to-autumn flowering sequence, clump-forming habit, and scarlet-red, apricot-flushed flowers. A [nursery profile](https://www.kernock.co.uk/acatalog/info_U5711.html) likewise reports a 45 cm height and spread.
## Placement and care
Plant it in full sun or light shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. It suits cottage borders, containers, gravel gardens, and mixed perennial plantings. Avoid waterlogged soil, especially in winter. The [RHS cultivation notes](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/377077/geum-macgeu001/details) recommend deadheading for more blooms and cutting back old stems after flowering.
## Maintenance
Deadhead spent flowers through the season. Cut old stems back after flowering and divide clumps in spring or autumn when they become crowded.
