Create design onlineAbout Chi Chi Ginkgo Tree
Ginkgo biloba 'Chi Chi' is a compact, slow-growing male ginkgo with an upright, irregular outline. Fan-shaped leaves emerge green and turn golden yellow in autumn, while rounded woody growths can develop along older branches and trunks. A typical garden size is about 10 feet tall and 5 feet wide, useful where a full-sized ginkgo would be too large. [Treeland Nursery](https://www.tree-land.com/products/chi-chi-ginkgo)
## Form and seasonal interest
The branching can be dense and sculptural, with the characteristic knobby growths becoming more noticeable with age. Like other ginkgos, Chi Chi is deciduous and gives a bright fall display. The Chicago Botanic Garden describes the closely associated dwarf selection 'Tit' as a small accent tree and notes its green summer leaves and yellow fall color. ## Siting
Grow in full sun or partial shade in well-drained soil. Allow for the expected 10-by-5-foot crown and avoid crowding it against structures or paths. Treeland lists USDA Zones 3–8.
## Maintenance
Keep the root zone evenly moist during establishment and water deeply during prolonged dry spells. Once established, the tree generally needs little routine care. Remove damaged or crossing branches as needed, and retain a clear structure without heavy pruning.
