Emperor™ is the male ginkgo selection Ginkgo biloba 'Woodstock', chosen for its strong central leader, regular branching, and upright-oval crown. It avoids the fleshy, odorous seeds produced by female ginkgo trees and turns golden yellow in fall. The Morton Arboretum lists a mature size of about 50 feet tall by 40 feet wide. ## Form and seasonal interest
The structured branching and broadening oval canopy suit a spacious specimen planting or shade-tree role. Fan-shaped foliage is green through the growing season and changes to yellow in autumn; the deciduous crown exposes its branching in winter. ## Siting
Give this large tree room for its canopy and roots, away from overhead utilities and narrow planting strips. Full sun or partial shade is suitable. The Chicago Botanic Garden lists USDA Zones 3–8 for Emperor.
## Maintenance
Water regularly while the tree establishes and during extended dry periods. Ginkgo is generally low-maintenance and tolerates urban conditions. Prune in spring to remove damaged or crossing branches and maintain a strong central leader.
