Ginkgo biloba 'Fairmont' is a male maidenhair tree with a dense, upright crown that can read as columnar or oval. It is grown for dependable structure, resistance to storm damage, and vivid yellow autumn foliage; because it is male, it does not set the fleshy fruit associated with female ginkgo trees. The University of Florida's cultivar fact sheet reports a mature height of 50–75 feet and spread of 15–25 feet. ## Form and seasonal interest
The dense crown can provide shade or screening where there is enough overhead and lateral space. Green, fan-shaped leaves turn yellow in fall and drop over a relatively short period. Fairmont is described as slow-growing and deciduous. [UF/IFAS cultivar fact sheet](https://hort.ifas.ufl.edu/database/documents/pdf/tree_fact_sheets/ginbilc.pdf)
## Siting
Plant in full sun or partial shade, with room for a large crown and a well-drained site. The cited fact sheet lists USDA Zones 5 through 8A; the catalog's whole-number upper zone is recorded as 8.
## Maintenance
Water through establishment and avoid persistently poorly drained soil. Early structural pruning can help maintain one central leader; later pruning is usually limited to removing damaged or crossing branches. Allow space for the mature canopy and seasonal leaf fall.
