About Halka Ginkgo Tree

Halka is a deciduous ginkgo introduced by Halka Nurseries, with a symmetrical, pyramidal crown when young that broadens toward an oval outline with age. Its fan-shaped green leaves turn bright yellow to gold in fall. ## Form and Use The nursery lists a mature size of about 45 feet tall by 40 feet wide. A strong central leader and dense, uniform branching give the tree a balanced silhouette suited to a spacious lawn, park, or broad street planting. Treat the eventual spread as a real siting requirement; this selection is not a narrow-columnar tree. ## Growing Conditions Halka is described as adaptable to a range of soils and especially suited to moist ground. The nursery reports it as hardy to USDA Zone 4 and male, so it does not produce the odorous seed coverings associated with female ginkgo trees. Give it room and avoid persistently dry conditions during establishment. ## Maintenance Keep young trees evenly watered while roots establish. Once established, monitor soil moisture during extended dry periods. Ginkgo is generally low maintenance; use selective spring pruning to remove damaged or crossing branches while retaining the central leader.
