About Heaven's Gate Ginkgo Tree

Ginkgo biloba 'Heaven's Gate' is a named maidenhair-tree selection with fan-shaped leaves and a deciduous habit. Ginkgo trees are long-lived and turn golden yellow in autumn; the species can reach 50–80 feet tall and 30–40 feet wide, though named cultivars vary in size and form. Ginkgo tolerates heat, drought, and urban air pollution, so it can suit an open garden or streetscape where the mature canopy has room. Its fan-shaped leaves turn gold before they fall. Female trees produce fleshy seeds with an unpleasant odor and can create cleanup around walks and patios; ask a nursery about the supplied tree's sex if this matters at your site. ## Maintenance Water young trees while they establish and during extended dry periods. Keep the root zone well drained, since ginkgo does not thrive in wet soil. Give the tree enough room for its eventual form and avoid placing a potentially fruiting female over heavily used paving.
