Jade Butterfly is a slow-growing, deciduous dwarf ginkgo whose compact branching and clustered, fan-shaped leaves suit smaller landscapes. The foliage is green through summer and turns golden yellow in fall.
## Form and Use
The Morton Arboretum and Utah State University report a mature height of about 12 to 15 feet; USU lists a width near 10 feet. The dense leaf clusters give this selection a distinctive texture for a small lawn, courtyard, or spacious container. Leave enough room for a broad crown and avoid placing it where routine pruning would be needed to contain its natural form.
## Growing Conditions
USU describes Jade Butterfly as slow growing, long lived, and tolerant of varied soils and weather, with low water use once established. Choose a site with dependable drainage and provide regular water during establishment. Female ginkgo trees can drop odorous seed coverings; the arboretum describes this selection as male and non-fruiting.
## Maintenance
Protect the root zone from prolonged drying while the tree is young. After establishment, water during extended drought as needed. Ginkgo is generally low maintenance; make any corrective pruning in spring and preserve its natural branching.
