About Magyar Ginkgo Tree

Magyar is a deciduous male ginkgo with a narrow, upright crown and ascending branches. Its fan-shaped, dark green leaves turn yellow in fall, making the tree a vertical focal point with seasonal color. ## Form and Use Allow for a large tree: the Dawes Arboretum reports a mature height around 50 feet, while Cornell lists an approximate size of 50 feet tall by 30 feet wide. The upright branching and dominant central leader make Magyar useful where a structured canopy is wanted, but it still needs generous overhead and root space. Its male selection avoids the fleshy, malodorous seed coverings produced by female ginkgo trees. ## Growing Conditions Dawes Arboretum lists USDA Zone 4. Plant in a site that can accommodate its eventual height and spread; use the tree’s mature dimensions rather than its nursery size when planning clearances. ## Maintenance Water consistently during establishment and during prolonged dry weather. Once established, ginkgo is generally low maintenance. Prune selectively in spring to remove damaged or crossing branches and maintain the natural leader.
