About Troll Dwarf Ginkgo Tree

‘Troll’ is a very slow-growing dwarf ginkgo with a compact, bushy outline and ruffled, fan-shaped leaves. The foliage is dark green through the growing season and turns yellow in autumn. Its restrained scale makes it useful where a full-sized maidenhair tree would outgrow the space. ## Garden Use and Size The RHS gives a mature range of 0.5–1 m tall and wide; Cornell describes plants around 3 feet in both dimensions. Allow roughly 2–3 feet of space in each direction, and expect growth to be gradual. The dense form works in a small bed, courtyard, or large container. Ginkgo cultivars are grown for foliage and shape rather than showy flowers. ## Site and Seasonal Interest Choose a sunny position and fertile, well-drained soil. The RHS lists chalk, loam, and sand as suitable soil types and recommends shelter from cold, drying winds. Its fan-shaped leaves provide summer texture before turning buttery yellow in fall. See the [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/210450/ginkgo-biloba-troll/details) and [Cornell cultivar note](https://woodyplants.cals.cornell.edu/cultivar/11002) for cultivar-specific size and form. ## Maintenance Water consistently while the plant establishes, then water during prolonged dry weather. The RHS notes that pruning is not generally required; remove only dead or damaged growth. If grown in a pot, use a free-draining mix and check moisture more often than for a tree in the ground.
