Create design onlineAbout Sky Tower Ginkgo Tree
Sky Tower is a narrow, upright male selection of ginkgo grown for a compact vertical form and bright yellow fall foliage. The Morton Arboretum identifies Sky Tower as Ginkgo biloba ‘JN9’ and reports a mature size of 15–20 feet tall by 6–10 feet wide. Its male selection does not produce the fleshy, odorous seeds associated with female ginkgo trees.
## Landscape Use
The columnar crown suits narrow lawns, street plantings, and spaces where a conventional broad-canopied shade tree would be too wide. Fan-shaped leaves provide a distinctive texture through the growing season before turning yellow in autumn. Allow enough room for the eventual trunk and canopy rather than treating the cultivar as a permanently miniature tree.
## Growing Conditions
Plant in full sun and well-drained soil. Ginkgo is adaptable to urban conditions and is generally resistant to serious pest problems. Water young trees regularly while they establish; established trees are more tolerant of dry periods. See the [Morton Arboretum’s ginkgo profile](https://mortonarb.org/plant-and-protect/trees-and-plants/ginkgo/) for cultivar identity, mature dimensions, and general care information.
## Maintenance
Prune selectively in spring to remove damaged or poorly placed branches. Avoid routine shearing, which can spoil the tree’s naturally narrow outline.
