Sunburst® honeylocust is a thornless, seedless shade tree valued for golden spring foliage that matures to green and returns to yellow in fall. Its broad, irregularly pyramidal crown casts filtered shade, so give the canopy room to spread.
## Landscape Use
This cultivar is sold as ‘Suncole’; [Kuenzi Turf & Nursery](https://kuenziturfnursery.com/product/sunburst-honeylocust/) describes a rounded, irregular pyramidal crown about 35–40 feet tall and 30–35 feet wide. [Greenleaf Nursery](https://www.greenleafnursery.com/plant/SUNBURSTR-HONEYLOCUST) lists a 30–35-foot height and 35-foot width, confirming that the mature spread is substantially broader than a narrow street tree. Use it as a shade or specimen tree where the crown can develop without crowding buildings or walks.
## Foliage and Site
New leaves open bright gold to chartreuse, shift toward green as they mature, then turn golden yellow in fall. The ornamental foliage gives the tree seasonal color while its open canopy allows dappled light beneath it. Greenleaf describes the selection as thornless and seedless and lists USDA Zone 4; [SuperTrees Nursery](https://nursery.supertrees.com/products/sunburst%C2%AE-honeylocust) lists growing zones 4–9 and full-sun exposure.
## Maintenance
Plant in full sun and leave generous space for the mature crown. The seedless selection reduces pod litter, though fallen leaves still need seasonal cleanup. Prune to maintain clearance and a sound branch framework as the tree establishes.
