GoldDust® Mecardonia is a compact, trailing annual with fine green foliage and bright yellow flowers. It spreads 16–20 inches wide while staying 2–5 inches tall, making it a useful spiller for containers and a low edging plant in sunny beds. The Proven Winners profile lists it for full sun, average soil and water, and flowering from planting until frost.
## Garden Use
The small, nemesia-like blooms appear from spring into summer and continue through the growing season in warm conditions. Use the plant at the edge of a container or hanging basket, where its trailing stems can drape, or let it fill the front of a sunny border. Its bright flowers pair readily with upright annuals and broader-leaved foliage plants.
## Growing Conditions
Choose a sunny site and ordinary, well-drained garden soil. Water regularly while plants establish and during dry weather; the breeder rates its water needs as average. The cultivar is protected as USPP 22,871, issued 24 July 2012, with Canadian certificate 4,383. It is heat tolerant and is listed for USDA zones 10a–11b. It is commonly grown as a warm-season annual elsewhere.
## Maintenance
GoldDust® is described as self-cleaning, so routine deadheading is unnecessary. Allow room for its 16–20-inch spread and trim only if stems extend beyond the planting area. In containers, check soil moisture more often during hot weather because pots dry faster than garden beds.
