Create design onlineAbout Fireworks Gomphrena
Fireworks gomphrena is a vigorous annual with upright branching stems and hot pink flower clusters tipped in bright yellow. PanAmerican Seed identifies the exact selection as Gomphrena pulchella and lists late-spring, summer, and autumn bloom, sun exposure, 36–48 inch height, and 48 inch width; it recommends the plant for landscapes, containers, and mixed bouquets ([Fireworks product information](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/029800001001858/gomphrena-fireworks/)).
## Placement
Use Fireworks as a tall, airy feature toward the back of a sunny border, in a large container, or in a cutting garden. Its open branching habit contrasts with compact bedding plants, and its long flower stems work well as filler in fresh or dried arrangements. Leave room for a spread of about four feet.
## Care and cutting
The breeder describes Fireworks as low maintenance and drought tolerant. Water while plants establish and during prolonged dry spells; regular moisture supports continued flowering. Harvest stems once the heads are sized and colored. The breeder’s culture guide recommends clean water after cutting and reports a 14–16 day vase life ([Fireworks culture guide](https://www.panamseed.com/utility/CultureSheetPDF.aspx?pagename=culture.aspx&txtphid=029800001001858&type=Cut)). The University of Wisconsin Extension also describes the cultivar’s pink and yellow flowers and its tall, branching form ([Fireworks overview](https://hort.extension.wisc.edu/articles/gomphrena-fireworks/)).
## Maintenance
Remove spent stems as needed to keep the display tidy, and replant for another season in climates where it does not overwinter.
