About Graceful Grasses® Baby Tut Umbrella Grass

Graceful Grasses® Baby Tut® is a compact, mounded umbrella sedge grown for green foliage and rounded green bracts rather than showy petals. It matures around 18–24 inches tall and wide, with listed flower seasons in spring and summer ([Proven Winners](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/cyperus/graceful-grasses-baby-tut-umbrella-grass-cyperus-involucratus)). ## Placement Use Baby Tut as a mid-height filler in a large mixed container, beside a pond, or in a moist landscape bed. The rounded leaf tufts provide a distinct texture among finer foliage, and the plant’s compact size keeps it useful where full-size papyrus would overwhelm the space. The breeder recommends part sun to sun and lists it for USDA zones 9–11. ## Growing Conditions Keep the root mass moist for steady growth. Baby Tut can also grow in regular garden soil, and the breeder notes it may tolerate some drier soil after it is established. At a pond edge, keep the crown above the waterline; shallow water around the root ball is sufficient. In containers, use a pot large enough for its 18–24-inch spread and check moisture often during warm weather. ## Maintenance This selection is listed as an annual and is not hardy through freezing winters. In cold-winter areas, use it as a seasonal accent rather than expecting it to return outdoors. Deadheading is unnecessary; remove damaged or browned leaves as needed. In frost-free climates, monitor its spread where the soil remains constantly wet, because it can become aggressive under those conditions ([Proven Winners growing notes](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/cyperus/graceful-grasses-baby-tut-umbrella-grass-cyperus-involucratus)).
