About Graceful Grasses® Blue Mohawk Soft Rush

Juncus inflexus ‘Blue Mohawk’ is an upright rush with rounded blue-green stems held in a narrow, dense clump. It brings year-round structure in mild conditions and a strong vertical accent to pond edges, rain gardens, boggy planting areas, and other sites that remain consistently moist. ### Size and placement Allow 2–3 feet of height and 18–24 inches of spread. Use it near the water’s edge or in wet soil, with enough room for the clump to expand gradually. Missouri Botanical Garden lists this selection for USDA zones 5–9 and notes that it can grow in a few inches of standing water, while also tolerating soil that stays moist without standing water. ### Growing conditions Full sun produces the strongest growth, though light shade is tolerated. Provide consistent moisture and avoid sites that dry completely; the plant can also be used in a large container if watering is reliable. Its small yellowish-green flowers appear in early to midsummer, but the blue-green stems provide the main ornamental effect. See the [Missouri Botanical Garden Plant Finder](https://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?cv=5&isprofile=0&lo=1&taxonid=272239) for selection-specific dimensions and culture. ## Maintenance Keep the root zone moist through the growing season. In cold-winter regions, remove dead stems in early spring; divide an established clump in spring if it outgrows its space.
