Hakonechloa ‘Stripe It Rich’ is a Japanese forest grass selection with golden leaves marked by white stripes. It forms a spreading, trailing clump that brings bright foliage to the front of a shaded planting or spills over a container edge.
## Garden Use
The [breeder profile from Terra Nova Nurseries](https://www.terranovanurseries.com/product/hakonechloa-stripe-it-rich/) lists a 10-inch height, 20-inch width, and USDA Zones 6–9. It recommends the cultivar for woodland accents, containers, pathways, entrances, borders, and edging. Its patent identifies the selection as ‘Stripe it Rich’ and describes gold foliage with white stripes; the grant number and date are recorded in the [patent listing](https://patents.justia.com/patent/PP19259).
## Growing Conditions
Grow it in partial or full shade in soil that holds some moisture but drains freely. The Terra Nova profile notes that it can also grow in full sun, though consistent moisture is important for a clean display. Allow room for its slowly expanding mound where it meets a walkway or container rim.
## Maintenance
Remove old foliage near the base in late winter or early spring before the new leaves emerge. Established clumps can be divided in spring when additional plants are wanted.
