Heart to Heart® Dawn to Dusk Shade is a foliage-grown caladium selected for its distinctive leaf pattern. Proven Winners markets this selection as Dawn to Dusk™ but identifies the patented cultivar as Caladium hortulanum 'Creamsickle' USPP 23,991. The cultivar name should therefore be normalized to Creamsickle while retaining Dawn to Dusk as the retail name. It has fancy leaves with white and burnt-orange tones and is best in part shade or shade.
## Cultivar and display
Proven Winners markets this selection as Dawn to Dusk™ but identifies the patented cultivar as Caladium hortulanum 'Creamsickle' USPP 23,991. The cultivar name should therefore be normalized to Creamsickle while retaining Dawn to Dusk as the retail name. It has fancy leaves with white and burnt-orange tones and is best in part shade or shade. Proven Winners lists a mature size of 15–20 inches tall and 10–14 inches wide, and recommends it for containers, borders, landscape beds, and mass planting. The colorful foliage, rather than flowers, is the primary ornamental feature.
## Growing conditions
Provide warm conditions and keep the growing medium consistently moist without allowing it to remain soggy. Caladiums are cold-sensitive; in climates with cold winters they are commonly grown as warm-season annuals or in containers that can be moved indoors. The North Carolina Extension Gardener Plant Toolbox describes caladiums as tuberous plants and recommends lifting and storing tubers dry at 45°F or warmer after frost. Caladium tissues can irritate if ingested.
## Maintenance
Keep the soil evenly moist during active growth, avoid cold and waterlogged conditions, and protect the plant from chilling temperatures. Where winters are cold, lift and store tubers in a dry place at 45°F or warmer after frost, or treat the plant as an annual.
