Create design onlineAbout Heart to Heart® Hot Flash™ Caladium
Heart to Heart® Hot Flash™ is a warm-season caladium with glossy red leaf centers and veins framed by deep green to bronze margins. Its upright leaves provide a strong color accent in a container, border or mass planting, and the breeder lists it for sunny and shaded exposures.
## Cultivar and size
The [Proven Winners profile](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/caladium/heart-heart-hot-flash-sun-or-shade-caladium-caladium-hortulanum) identifies ‘Hot Flash’ and lists plants 15–20 inches high with an 8–10 inch spread. It describes shiny red centers and veins, a dark green-to-bronze border, and an upright habit. The matching plant patent is for ‘JPD 153-20’; its grant and publication date is April 25, 2017.
## Siting
Choose sun or shade with regard to climate and local light intensity. Caladiums favor warm, humid conditions and consistently moist soil, while cold, saturated soil can damage them. The profile lists USDA zones 10–11; elsewhere, use in a seasonal container or lift the tubers for winter storage.
## Maintenance
Water to keep the root zone evenly moist while the plant is actively growing, and use a free-draining container or bed. Keep growing conditions warm; the breeder advises temperatures above 65°F and modest, regular feeding. Caladium tissue may irritate if eaten. Before frost, lift tubers in climates where they cannot remain in the ground; UF/IFAS recommends drying and storing them in a dry medium for replanting.
