Create design onlineAbout Heart to Heart® White Star™ Caladium
Heart to Heart® ‘White Star’ is a foliage caladium selected for bright white leaves with pale pink to rose veins, a dark green edge, and a contrasting rose-red mark at the leaf base. The compact strap-leaved plant brings a crisp, luminous accent to warm-season beds and containers, and Proven Winners lists it for sun or shade.
## Garden use
Use it as a low border accent, in groups, or in a container where the patterned leaves can be seen close up. Its foliage is the feature; do not expect a showy flower display. The cultivar is listed for USDA zones 10–11, as listed in the [official White Star profile](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/caladium/heart-heart-white-star-sun-and-shade-caladium-caladium-hortulanum).
## Light, soil, and water
Caladiums need warm conditions and consistently moist, well-drained soil. Plant outdoors only after temperatures are reliably warm; in cooler regions a container is easier to move to a protected warm location. Full sun can work for this selection, though light intensity and local heat affect placement. Avoid cold, soggy soil and do not let the root zone dry out during active growth.
## Seasonal interest
The leaves provide their strongest display through the warm growing season. Caladiums are tropical tuberous plants and may become dormant in cool weather; in climates with frost, protect or store tubers rather than treating them as hardy perennials.
## Maintenance
Keep soil evenly moist without waterlogging. In cold climates, wait for warm soil before planting and bring containers under cover before cold weather; [Proven Winners’ caladium guidance](https://www.provenwinners.com/learn/container-gardening/vibrant-versatile-heart-heart-caladiums) covers warm planting, moisture, and overwintering. Follow the breeder’s seasonal guidance for lifting and storing tubers where they are not winter hardy.
