Create design onlineAbout Heart to Heart® Xplosion™ Caladium
Heart to Heart® ‘Xplosion’ is a strap-leaved caladium whose foliage changes as leaves mature. The breeder describes white leaf areas netted with vivid pink to red veins and a central eye, set against olive green to bronzy-pink tones. This colorful foliage makes it a strong container focal point or a lively accent in warm-season beds ([official Xplosion profile](https://c1.provenwinners.com/plants/caladium/heart-heart-xplosion-sun-and-shade-caladium-caladium-hortulanum)).
## Garden use
Use Xplosion in a border, mass planting, or container where its changing leaf pattern can be appreciated. It is listed for sun or shade and for USDA zones 10–11. The cultivar name and USPP 31,570 match Proven Winners’ official plant page and protected-variety list.
## Light, soil, and water
Provide warmth, moisture, and free drainage. In cooler regions, late planting and containers help keep the tubers warm and avoid cold, saturated soil. Sun exposure depends on regional intensity; in hotter or drier climates, choose lighter shade and check moisture more often. Keep the soil moist during active growth without leaving the tuber in standing water.
## Seasonal interest
The foliage carries the display through the warm season, with juvenile and mature leaves showing different color combinations. Caladiums are tropical and may become dormant when temperatures cool; they are not reliably hardy outdoors where frost occurs.
## Maintenance
Wait for warm soil before planting and water consistently while leaves are growing. Before cold weather in frost-prone areas, protect the plant or lift and store the tubers according to local conditions.
