HayDay™ Golden Bicolor is a compact selection in Syngenta’s Helenium autumnale series, with dense branching and upright, mounding growth. Its golden-yellow petals have red undersides, creating a warm two-tone display from late spring into fall.
## Garden use
Plan for a plant about 14–18 inches tall and wide in a sunny border, smaller bed, or patio container. The series is marketed for landscape and container use, while the exact Golden Bicolor selection is also described for smaller borders and patio pots. Its dense flowers are attractive to pollinators, so it can add late-season activity near a seating area or along a garden path. See the [Syngenta product profile](https://www.syngentaflowers.com/ams/product/flower/70075273) for series dimensions and the [Fleuroselect selection profile](https://www.fleuroselect.com/trials-and-awards/awarded-varieties/variety/hayday-golden-bicolor) for the golden flowers, red undersides, and compact habit.
## Growing conditions
Give it full sun and enough room for the upright mound to develop. Syngenta lists the cultivar for USDA zones 5a–9a and flowering from late spring through fall. Avoid shade if you want the strongest bloom; the [RHS Helenium guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/helenium) recommends full sun and a sheltered position for the genus.
## Maintenance
Check flowering stems during windy weather and stake only if they begin to lean. Remove spent flowers for a tidier display or leave some seed heads through winter, then cut old stems back in late winter or early spring.
