About Limelight Licorice Plant

Limelight is a trailing licorice plant with rounded, velvety chartreuse leaves and long stems that soften a border or spill from a container. It is grown chiefly for foliage; its small cream-to-pale-yellow flower heads are inconspicuous. [The RHS describes Limelight as an evergreen, trailing form with lime-green woolly leaves and gives mature size of 0.1–0.5 metres tall by 0.5–1 metre wide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/73670/helichrysum-petiolare-aureum/details), while [a San Francisco nursery reports growth to about 3 feet tall and 4 feet wide or more, plus part sun, low-to-medium water, and established drought tolerance](https://heronsheadnursery.com/products/helichrysum-petiolare-limelight). ## Size and Siting Allow room for stems to trail across a low wall, over a pot, or along the front of a planting. Published sizes vary with growing conditions and whether stems are supported or left to spread, so use an open edge rather than a tight planting pocket. ## Growing Conditions Grow in full sun or part shade in freely draining soil. The RHS lists chalk, loam, and sand, while local nursery guidance favors low to moderate water and notes that established plants tolerate dry periods. In warm gardens it can remain evergreen; elsewhere it is often grown seasonally or protected from frost. ## Maintenance Trim long stems to keep them out of paths and neighboring plants. Water more regularly while establishing, then reduce watering once roots are settled and the soil dries between applications.
